SCEA Members’ Breakfast Meeting and 2024 Annual General Meeting Held in Nairobi



The shipper’s council Of Eastern Africa hosted a successful Members’ Breakfast Meeting and 2024 Annual General Meeting (AGM) on 15th July 2025 at the Panari Hotel, Nairobi, under the theme: “Facilitating Seamless Trade – Focusing on Efficiency and Risk Management.”
The event served as a critical platform for meaningful engagement between the private sector and key government agencies to address ongoing challenges in trade facilitation, port operations, and cargo clearance.
We were honoured to welcome Mr. Godfrey Kiptum, CEO of the Insurance Regulatory Authority, who served as our Chief Guest. His keynote remarks emphasized on the need to secure local insurance and undertaking between KRA and IRA to develop systems that would facilitate easy implementation of the directive. He added that exemptions would be granted on a need basis on application and which must be merited
Also joining us was Mr. David Ngarama, CEO of KENTRADE, who briefed members on forthcoming regulatory changes including a proposed 50% reduction in Unique Consignment Reference (UCR) charges for Exports a commendable step forward for the business community.
We were also pleased to have representatives from the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA), Kenya Ports Authority (KPA), KEPHIS, and the Agriculture and Food Authority (AFA) who actively participated in discussions, addressed members’ concerns, and provided updates on critical reform initiatives.
