Advocating for efficient and competitive logistics for cargo owners within Eastern Africa.
H.E Hassan Ali Joho, Cabinet Secretary for the Ministry of Mining, Blue Economy, and Maritime Affairs, taking cognizance of the importance of Mombasa Port to the regional economies and the need for closer collaboration between the Public and Private Sector, reaffirmed his support for the Charter, particularly on the upcoming MPNCCC 10th anniversary celebration in March 2025.
The MPNCCC Steering Committee, led by Chair and CEO of the Shippers Council of Eastern Africa, Mr. Agayo Ogambi, met with CS Joho and Principal Secretary for the State Department for Shipping and Maritime Affairs, Mr. Geoffrey Kaituko. Mr. Ogambi shared recent progress under the Charter, including a noteworthy reduction in the port’s average dwell time from 91.2 hours in 2019 to 79.2 hours in 2024. Both CS Joho and PS Kaituko commended the strides achieved within the Charter framework, recognizing its substantial contributions to improving efficiency at the port and along the northern corridor.
The MPNCCC will mark its 10th anniversary this year, after the signing of the charter by signatories in an elaborate ceremony at the Port of Mombasa in 2014. This collaboration framework by both partner government agencies and the private sector binds the port community to collective obligations, specific actions, targets, and timelines towards the efficiency of the corridor.
